💚 You thought the Great Ocean Road was all about the ocean? We did too — until we turned inland and discovered the green, hidden heart of Victoria

Just a short drive from the coast, the Otways feel like another world: Misty forests, roaring waterfalls, and giant trees that make you feel tiny in the best way.

💦 Erskine Falls – raw, powerful beauty
Only 15 minutes from Lorne, this 30-metre waterfall is an easy detour that feels worlds away.
📍 0.3 km return to the lookout or 1 km return if you walk to the base – worth every step!

🌲The Redwoods – peaceful & surreal
Step into a forest that looks straight out of a fairytale.
📍 Located near Beech Forest, about 35 km (45 min) inland from the Great Ocean Road.

🌧️ Hopetoun Falls – hidden & absolutely magical
One of the most photogenic waterfalls in the Otways!
📍 Just 1 km return (steep stairs but stunning). Best early in the morning or during light rain — the drive there through fog and drizzle is pure magic

Where to stay:
Base yourself in Beech Forest to explore the Otways at your own pace — it’s the perfect spot between Hopetoun Falls, the Redwoods & (Beauchamp Falls, which was closed during our visit)
Beech Forest is around 35 km (45 min) from the Great Ocean Road near Apollo Bay.

An absolutely gem with magical reflections during low tide. Peaceful, underrated, and absolutely worth a stop.

📍 London Bridge
Wild ocean views and dramatic cliffs — with several lookouts to soak it all in. The raw power of nature at its best 🌊

📍 Bakers Oven
You can park right in front of the viewpoint! The area around is so stunning too — especially during golden hour when everything glows 🌅

📍 Gibson Steps
One of the few spots where you can walk down to the beach (sadly closed during our visit). Still, the view from above is incredible — especially at sunset 🌞

🌲California Redwoods – A tiny forest of giants that instantly makes you feel small. Peaceful, magical, and straight out of a storybook.

🧚🏻 Hopetoun Falls – Hidden deep in the rainforest, this one completely stole our hearts. A short walk leads to the most magical waterfall — even more stunning when it rains.

💦 Erskine Falls – Just 15 minutes from Lorne, easy to reach and surrounded by lush green — like something out of a fantasy film.

Stay in Beech Forest — the perfect base to explore the Redwoods and Hopetoun Falls. Beauchamp Falls is another must-see nearby (sadly closed during our visit, but absolutely worth coming back for) 🌧️💫

Honestly, we didn’t expect the @visitgreatoceanroad to be that impressive — but it truly is! The coastal stops are absolutely magical, and the ocean feels wild and untamed!

And when the first light hits the Twelve Apostels it feels almost unreal 🥹

And the best part? There’s so much more to discover inland than you might think 🧚🏻

🏙️ Adelaide – Starting point with a relaxed city vibe, great cafés, and vibrant art scene

🥾 Grampians National Park - waterfalls & amazing hikes

🌊 Port Campbell – Coastal wonders with the Twelve Apostles and much more
